About

Although you’ll see that the head office and mailing address are located in balmy Las Vegas, Nevada;  the Manager, here at Gardener’s Harvest, resides in Southwestern Virginia where there are as many soil types as micro-climates.  Our gardening season is fairly long, compared to most, and most varieties of fruits and vegetables can be grown in our zone.  GardenersHarvest.com is the result of wanting all of my preserving needs met in one place.  This is why you’ll find the equipment and tools you need, a plethora of preserving cookbooks, articles and links to helpful websites.

Was I born a country-girl? No.  I was born and raised in one of our super cities.  I learned how to preserve food from a book, sound familiar?  Do I really like preserving?  I like the end results, not necessarily the work and effort involved, so I continue preserving.  The end results being a full freezer and my basement shelves lined with this winters meals, that is what makes it all worth it.

During harvest or canning season, you’ll see me with 4 stoves going; a 2-burner propane camp cookstove, a 2-burner Coleman gas stove, an old 3-burner kerosene stove and my 1950’s GE Frigidaire 3-burner kitchen stove.  I use the propane, gas, and kerosene stoves on my front porch to minimize the amount of heat inside the house (I don’t like air-conditioning), and do my canning in an assembly line fashion.  When it comes time  to do my canning, I have no problem enlisting the help of the local kids to break beans, etc.  When our gardens really start to produce, if you were to drive by my home, you’ll notice that my equipment is seldom put away (it stays on the porch until the season is over, I’m basically lazy).  Not only do I live in a neighborhood where I feel secure enough to do that, but my neighbors are wonderfully tolerant and forgiving!  That’s why they get Christmas baskets of home canned goodies!

Are you new to preserving?  Preserving is simple to learn.   Do you like to save money?   Though the initial costs of food preserving can put a dent in your budget, over time your investment will pay off ten-fold.  Do you like the idea of being prepared for anything?  With home preserving, you will be prepared for the extra plate or two at your table, as well as when times are lean.  If there is something you would like to see on this site, or if you have any suggestion for improving this site, please send an e-mail to me at Manager@GardenersHarvest.com, I’d like to hear from you!
